Publishing Center Guidelines
TO PUBLISH A BOOK
Edit the student’s rough draft. This includes:
Correcting spelling errors
Correcting grammatical errors
Put a red dot where a new page should begin
Compose an “About the Author” page with the student. (Specific guidelines available.)
Set up an appointment for the student to return to the Publishing Center to illustrate the story. This should be at approximately the same time, one week from the day of editing. give the student a completed appointment card to show his teacher.
Place the edited story with the “About the Author” page in the “To Be Typed” folder.
Enter the story on the story tracking sheet on the clipboard.
When the stories are returned from the typist, please proofread them. If errors are found, please see the LMC staff. If no errors are found, check off on the record sheet that the manuscript has been typed. File it alphabetically by author in the “To Be Illustrated” file.
To illustrate a story, the student will draw an illustration on white stickers for each page of his story. A volunteer will place the sticker on the page above the text. If illustrating is not completed, set up an appointment to continue for approximately the same time the following week. Give the student a completed appointment card to show his teacher.
When illustrating is finished, have the student sign the “About the Author” page. Place the story in the “To Be Xeroxed” folder.
Xerox one copy.
Place the original and its copy in the “To Be Cut” folder.
Cut to 5 1/2” to 8 1/2”.
Place the original and its copy in the “To Be Bound” folder.
Bind the story and its copy.
Attach a “WS Publishing Center” library pocket to the Xeroxed copy that stays in the LMC, and give this to one of the LMC staff.
Complete a Certificate from the Publishing Center for the book to be given to the student.
