This week 1st - 5th graders learned how to: login, check their info on books checked out and on hold, rate books, write reviews, search the eBook shelf, and search the catalog using keywords, title, subject, author, and series. A parent sent me this picture of her first grader putting books on hold, saying that she may never get her computer back. Great job Ashlyn!

The Global Read Aloud has Begun!More than 8,000 different facilitators around the world will read aloud to more than 525,000 students, this is an amazing journey. Kindergarten and First Graders are taking part in an author study of Amy Krouse Rosenthal. We will be reading six of her books, one a week and connecting with schools around the globe. Chopsticks is the book of the week! Second and Thirds Graders are reading the book The Year of Billy Miller. Fourth and Fifth are reading Fish in a Tree. Lynda Mullaly Hunt, the author of Fish in a Tree, made a special welcome video here (and she reads aloud the very first chapter too!) https://lyndamullalyhunt.wordpress.com/2015/10/04/welcome-to-gra15-lynda-reads-chapter-one-of-fish-in-a-tree/ And finally, a very short welcome video for all of you from the creator of Global Read Aloud. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ImvUtoOm2rw Mrs. Richmond's and Mrs. Kaiser's classes connected today with a class in Manitoba, Canada. We skyped and asked many questions. Their school is a K-8 with 86 students. They have a Kindergarten class and then Multiage 1/2, 3/4, 5/6 and 7/8. The High School is 10 miles away. Their Principal also teaches Music and 7/8.
Thank you to our August and September students who donated a book in honor of their birthday! They are the first ones to read the new book before it becomes a part of the Windsor Library. |
