Mrs. Aprati and Mrs. Malinowski's 2nd graders learned about Novel Engineering in the LMC today. Novel Engineering combines literature and engineering design. Students identify a problem in the story and design a solution. We read the book Going Places by Peter and Paul Reynolds. The class was divided into 6 teams. Each team was given an identical kit of supplies and designed a device that could move. Look at the joy on their faces throughout the process! Shout out and a huge thank you to Kathleen Corley for coordinating Windsor's Google Expedition! Thank you to Portia, our Google Representative! Our 4th, 5th, and the Multiage classrooms were able to spend time learning about Volcanoes and the Great Barrier Reef using 3D Google Cardboard and Android phones. Responses from the students were: AWESOME! LOVED IT! COOL! Second grade is learning about Erosion. Using vocabulary from the Science unit and Type Drawing, students created pictures of erosion. These were downloaded to the iPads camera roll. Then students scanned the class Seesaw app QR code. This opened up Seesaw, an online digital portfolio. Students the uploaded their photo Students exploring the birds nests! Examining the difference in size and materials. Great questions and discussions with Mrs. Scott's class! Thursday, May 12th was our final book club meeting of the year. Twenty five students enjoyed lunch and lively conversation. Each student brought and shared their favorite books. Some of their favorites are: Book Scavenger, All The Answers, Fuzzy Mud, The War that Saved My Life, Unstoppable, and A Night Divided. Great books to add to your Summer Reading list! Looking forward to next year's Book Club! The LMC was the place to be during Open House! Families were meeting Tween Librarian Kerry Devitt, making buttons, and getting library cards with Mary from AHML circulation department! We love being partners with AHML, our 5 STAR library! Thank you! Stop by the LMC to meet AHML Tween Librarian Kerry Devitt! |
